The Mac mini gets a $20 rebate for those eligible for the education discount. He would also receive the $50 instant rebate on anything else in the store now – Sept. 21st. Those eligible for education discounts include college students, those accepted to college, the parent/guardian of a college student and the faculty/staff of any grade level (k-12, college).
I am not certain you would qualify for the education discount specifically. It would depend on your credentials, etc. It would be best to visit a store for more information on that.
In regards to your question about the blue ray external drive, they exist, but we do not carry them at this time. You will only be able to use blue ray with your Mac mini IF you have a monitor that is capable of handling blue ray.
Please contact or visit your local PeachMac for more information.

I am planning to buy a Macbook Pro for my college classes, but I have not got my student ID card made. Will I have to wait if I want the rebate?

PeachMac says:
You don’t have to have your ID card necessarily. You may bring in anything that proves you’ll be attending classes in the fall or currently. For example, a copy of your transcript, a copy of your acceptance letter, etc.
